Pocket Pebble

Scripture

"So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him." -1 Samuel 17:50

Reflection

A while back a close friend gave me a polished rock with a cross etched in it painted gold. He told me to keep in on my person always.  Not in my purse or kept in the car or on my desk, actually in my pocket.  He said it was because it's a reminder of God's unfailing love and also, because you never know what giants you'll be facing, and you'll need to be prepared.

This was annoying because now I had to find pants with pockets. At the same time it was incredibly profound. The idea that the giants will show up.....the unexpected news, the interview, the test, the confrontation. For some that giant is just getting up in the morning to face the day. The giants look different for all of us.

When David said he would take on Goliath, he was only equipped with his slingshot and a smooth stone. Or was he? We know that's not all he had, he also had GOD on his side. David went into the face of this giant and took him out. That is why I carry the stone with me.  When I'm anxious or scared, or I know today is gonna be 'a big day' for whatever reason, I just keep that rock in my hand and roll it around all day.  So much so the gold paint is getting worn out.

Prayer

Father thank you for giving us the giants.  They remind us of YOUR love and YOUR power to over come any challenge given to us. Father I pray that I always remember you are my firm foundation and that you are always my first thought when I see the giants coming. You are with me to defeat them, I cannot do it myself and I surrender that to you.  Father protect me always and guard my heart and mind to only focus on you when I am uncertain. In Jesus name, AMEN.

Practice

Get yourself a pocket pebble, or perhaps someone will send you one if you were to send a prayer request for one ;) Keep it on you always as a reminder that you CAN take on those giants anywhere any time, because you are called BY GOD to defeat all worry and anxiety for HIS glory!

It is important to note here, however, that there is no power in the actual pebble. That is just a reminder. The actual power lies in your heart and trust in the LORD your God who loves you more than anything.
